Rwanda Tightens Border Health Measures

(MENAFN) Rwanda has strengthened its precautionary entry requirements for travelers arriving from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, following the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the region.

The Ministry of Health announced that Rwandan citizens and foreign residents holding valid proof of residency who have come from Congo within the past 30 days will be required to undergo compulsory quarantine, in accordance with established public health procedures.

The ministry further stated that all foreign nationals who have visited or transited through Congo within the last 30 days before planned travel to Rwanda will be refused entry.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced a rise in Ebola infections since the outbreak was officially declared on May 15 in Ituri province, with the illness subsequently spreading to North Kivu and South Kivu provinces.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 750 suspected cases and 177 suspected deaths have been recorded. The organization also confirmed at least 82 verified infections and seven fatalities within Congo.

Additionally, two imported cases involving Congolese citizens were reported in neighboring Uganda, which has since halted flights to and from Congo as a preventive measure to curb further transmission.

So far, no infections have been detected in Rwanda.
